Girasole is a hidden gem of Larchmont Village. It’s a quaint little Italian restaurant that serves authentic Italian food in a cozy setting. As the name Girasole (English translation is Sunflower) suggests, the restaurant is bright with lots of natural light and has a lot of subtle hues of the countryside. One of the best things about this place is the BYOB/ no corkage fee. What’s even more convenient, is that Larchmont Village Wine Spirits & Cheese, my go-to wine shop, is just two storefronts down.
For this post, we had quite the pasta party as we were all craving it. I mean, what better way is there to enjoy life than to share tasty pasta dishes paired with a great bottle of wine at a cute restaurant with a couple of your closest friends?! I always love to start out with their Caprese con Buratta ($16). It’s a simple dish with heirloom tomatoes, basil, and the creamiest buratta drizzled with really good olive oil. I like adding a little bit of balsamic vinegar to mine for the extra tanginess. Between the three of us we shared the following pastas dishes: Spinach Gnocchi in Butter & Sage Sauce ($16), Lasagna with Ragu Sauce ($15), and Linguine with Clams in White Wine Sauce ($23). The Spinach Gnocchi is possibly the most unique dish at Girasole. Unlike the usual gnocchi, the dish comes with several huge pieces of gnocchi. It’s filled with spinach inside, thoroughly coated with butter & sage sauce, and literally just melts in your mouth. One of my friends once described the texture as soft pillowy clouds. The Lasagna with Ragu Sauce is a such classic dish so we had to order it. If you love clams, the Linguine with Clams in White Wine Sauce is a must. It’s not on the menu (don’t get confused with Spaghetti alle vongole) but you can order it from the server. As you can see from the pictures above, they give a generous amount of clams (both shelled and diced) and especially, when paired with a glass of crisp white wine, there is no other place you would rather be.
It is a small place and I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time. After dinner, strolling down larchmont is a lovely way to end a meal, and if you’re like me, stopping by Baciami Gelataeria for gelato would be the perfect sweet ending to a delicious Italian meal.
